I like using file mirroring sites instead like http://www.upload-this.com they honestly are way better than just one file hosting company. You upload to them and they give you a download page from multiple major free file hosting companies. They even let you password protect without any registration. They don’t even bomb you with ads, just clean, easy, and free.

I dont like Megaupload or Rapidshare .

Megaupload had or have that stupid rule of make you download his toolbar to download any file and rapidshare have a lot of limit for free users .

I was expecting a little bit more recent information from this review.
For the records, I have been a Premium (I pay them $$$) Rapidshare & Megaupload user for 2 years now and lately I’m searching for an alternative to Rapidshare.
They have now this stupid “All Files that are now Downloaded in the last 90 days will be deleted”.
With this new politic it is clear that Rapidshare cannot be part of my backup strategie anymore.
Something that I will miss however from RS is that you can download in a text file all your directory files, which I think is pretty useful when you’re having thousand of files (which is my case).
Anyway, thanks for this information but please, UPDATE!

I personally would not touch Megaupload
even with a barge pole. Spoken from peronal experiences that is. However, you should draw your own conclusions.

All these sites are fine, but I am looking for a site where you can upload files into folders, and people can download them via normal ftp. Also, the files must not expire, and I need at least 100mb file size upload. Also, I don’t want a reference for every file uploaded, one adress, even if it is a sub-domain, one password and the guys can see all folders…

This is probably daydreaming, or are there sites that cater for this?

Rapidshare has the most files you see in all forums and posts by its members and the company is based in Switzerland.

However, I recommend Megaupload as it’s has more features to its free members and to guests to upload and download files as well as higher limits.

Rapidshare is the biggest and Megaupload is the 2nd biggest. Both have the most upload posts to share in forums and sites and being a paid Premium member has it’s benefits to get many avialable files fast from many users. Both file hosting companies have a very huge member base and a very secuessful business model as a business is there to earn money.

You get what you pay for to find what you want fast so if you going to pay, I would go with Megaupload or Rapidshare.

what about http://www.esnips.com ? 5GB of file storage, have access to all members public folders and files, 50 MB/.zip file max upload, 100MB/other file upload, excellent download speed (up to 250 kbps).

best out there, better than Box.net if you don’t need online file text editing.
