Unable to access your Startlogic account using the same old password? This is because Startlogic have changed all their users passwords.
According to system notice released in late January, the procedure is to ensure the security of all accounts hosted with Startlogic. This means you’ll have to to change all your login password to your control panel as well as FTP access. Startlogic said that they have sent out notification e-mails for the temporary password but I received nothing. In case you are one of the unlucky ones (like me!) who got nothing from the Startlogic admin, you can visit Startlogic Password Tools to reset your login password. All you need is to input your username or e-mail.
Official Notification by Startlogic
As for your reference, here are the official explanation by Startlogic regarding the incident.
WHY DID YOU CHANGE MY PASSWORD?
To provide all of our customers with the most secure hosting environment possible, we changed account/FTP passwords. Unfortunately, online criminals are continuously developing new ways to exploit Web sites, and we are committed to taking every possible precaution to protect our customers.
We recognize the inconvenience this may cause you, and we regret this necessary security measure.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY PASSWORD BE CHANGED? / WHY CAN’T I USE MY OLD PASSWORD?
We recommend that you change your password every 90 days or so. Many people use the same password for several different things, and the longer you go without changing it (and the more places you use it), the greater the risk.
We will not force you to change your password every 90 days, but we strongly encourage you to do so yourself.
WHY DO I NEED A STRONG PASSWORD?
Strong passwords are far more effective at keeping your account secure than simple, every-day words (or dates, etc.). Learn more about strong passwords.
Is Startlogic doing alright?
Yes, Startlogic is doing good so far.
I especially like the transparency of the Startlogic’s management system. There’s an “Important Notification” section on top of Startlogic account control panel where I can get all sorts of system updates. Server maintenance schedules, for example, are showed clearly in advance to all customers. There will be Exchange Hosting servers maintenance on February 6 and 7, 2009. Further more, maintenance schedule for the months ahead are set: March 13, 2009, April 17, 2009, May 15, 2009, and June 12, 2009.
Compare to other hosting companies that’re reluctant to reveal their maintenance schedule (probably because they don’t have one), I like how Startlogic organize their work systematically and am happy with their service. To read more about Startlogic, check out my detail review here.

I have to disagree. Startlogic is NOT doing good. I had my password reset in their security reset. Coincidentally, I changed ISPs so my email changed and the address startlogic has on file is not valid (password could not be e-mailed). Also in this day of credit card fraud, the card I used to pay my account had to be changed due to a bank security compromise (they would not verify my identity over the phone).
They had me fax a copy of my drivers license and some domain/user name info to them and said I would be e-mailed a new password in 24 hours. It’s been a week now and I still can’t access my account. I’ve called them each of the last 4 days and they keep giving me the run around “someone will contact you tomorrow sir”, they say this everyday. I’ve asked to speak with a supervisor and was told that this was just a call center and the supervisor would not be able to help. They said there was nobody I could talk to to get my problem fixed today, I would just have to wait. How long does it take to reset a password and send an e-mail?
I informed them that if the problem was not fixed by tomorrow I will be moving to a different web host. Of course they didn’t care, they’re just a sourced call center.
Joe, thanks for your input about Startlogic. I’m sure it helps undecided readers to rethink about going with Startlogic.
I review Startlogic service based on my experience – the password-change process work out smooth for me thus I wrote good words about them.
I am sorry to learn about your unhappy story with Starlogic. Unable to access your hosting account for one week is definitely unacceptable. I’m not sure why this is happening but apparently the support system at Startlogic fail to handle such ‘non-standard’ situation efficiently.
